Position Available: Greening Urban Watersheds Project Manager

The Watershed Project is a nonprofit based in Richmond, California whose mission is to inspire Bay Area communities to understand, appreciate and protect our local watersheds. As part of this endeavor, we are focusing on projects that will improve our urban watersheds through the use of Low Impact Design (LID) that can help mitigate the effects of urbanization on stormwater. These technologies and designs mimic natural watershed processes by replicating pre-existing hydrologic site conditions. LID directs runoff to natural vegetated systems that reduce, filter or slow stormwater runoff and may include swales, rainwater gardens, stormwater planters, green roofs, pervious concrete and green streets to improve the health of our urban watersheds.

The Project Manager is a half-time, exempt position that may become a full-time position depending on successful completion of current LID projects and successful fundraising efforts. The Project Manager is responsible for managing the project development process on multiple projects simultaneously. This position is highly visible in the organization and externally as a team leader and project developer.

The activities of this leadership position include: completing an ongoing bioswale project in a Richmond park, identifying, locating, evaluating and negotiating new LID project opportunities, determining project feasibility, developing and managing project budgets, establishing schedules for project phases, securing project financing from private and public sources, working with public agencies, engineers, and local community groups during the development process, and fostering stewardship of completed projects.

The Project Manager reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the management team.

Essential functions of the position include current project oversight, identifying other possible LID projects, contract negotiation, working with the development team for project funding and budgeting, developing a project team and partnerships, soliciting and acknowledging pro bono goods and services, coordinating the planning and permitting processes, project schedules and reports.

Qualified candidates will have a great attention to detail, experience managing a project from start to finish, experience with landscaping or gardening projects, familiarity with Low Impact Development techniques, an interest in watershed health and ecology and the ability to advocate on behalf of the Watershed Project and its goals.

Salary DOE plus benefits commensurate with half-time status.
